The first method is by courting one of your other two primary options. There are two ways this can happen, detailed below. Locking in a Romance partner doesn't mean the relationship can't still be jeopardized however. If you have done the Suicide Mission, the Romance Scene will play immediately once you Lock In your Romance partner. If you haven't done the Suicide Mission at the Omega-4 Relay, it will initiate when you start that Mission. Once you've locked in a Romance partner, they'll visit Shepard in the Captain's Cabin for the Romance Scene. The dialogue options can be placed a bit strangely here, so make sure to read them carefully so that you don't, say, accidentally dump Garrus by picking "I want to be your friend" because it was in the upper-left Paragon slot of the Dialogue Wheel. The third stage is where you Lock In the romance and confirm that you want to commit to the relationship.As before you'll want to make sure you pick reaffirming options to continue the relationship. The Courting phase begins after you've completed a Romance option's Loyalty Mission, and is make up of four conversation stages. As such, it's impossible to Romance any of the main six Squad Mates before the Horizon Mission. Loyalty Missions are unlocked in a specific order by completing Missions after the excursion to Horizon. The first stage you need to pass is resolving a Squad Mate's personal issues, which you do by completing their Loyalty Mission.
